It’s party time!

***Warning…long post and TONS of pictures to follow!***

We finished up Sophie’s birthday weekend with a wonderful party with family and friends.  We decided on a fun Rainbow Brite theme (vintage 80s, of course).  Tricia and I loved Rainbow Brite growing up and it was so fun looking for ways to decorate for the party.  I was amazed at how much I was able to find on eBay from the 80s…in the original packaging nonetheless!

I was even able to find a retired Wilton cake pan!!  Tricia and I worked on icing this cake for hours!!  It turned out fairly well but had so much frosting on it that we just used it for looks rather than having anyone eat it.

The morning of the party was super busy since we had lots to set up, but we were able to sit down for some family pics before all the guests arrived :) IMG_2236 IMG_2250

One of my favorite parts of the party was the rainbow candy buffet!  We had rainbow lollipops, gummi bears, saltwater taffy, skittles and rainbow licorice! IMG_2287IMG_2288  IMG_2265 IMG_2266

Everyone also loved the display of the monthly pictures of Sophie’s first year!  It was so fun to see how Sophie changed every month.

Sophie looked adorable in her Rainbow Brite skirt (which I found on Etsy!) and rainbow striped baby legs.

Sophie was so blessed to celebrate with over 60 of our closest family and friends.  It was so wonderful to have so many people there who have played a part in her first year of life.

IMG_2323Ok, I guess I’ll dig in!

IMG_2334I think I’ll share some with Grandpa.

IMG_2353 That was delicious!

Sophie was spoiled rotten with lots of great presents from everyone.  She had a great time opening them all up!

We all had such a great time celebrating Sophie’s 1st birthday!!  We’re thrilled that so many of our family and friends were able to join us on such a special day :)

Look who’s 1???

I can honestly say that I can’t believe Sophie is already 1!  Her birthday (May 29th) fell on a Saturday, so it was fun to have the whole family at home together.  To start the day, Erik made a family favorite for breakfast…puffy pancakes :)  While Sophie was waiting for her food she made sure to tell us how old she was!

Next up - the ever exciting monthly photo session.  Here are some of my favorites:

Saturday afternoon we headed off to one of our favorite toys stores in Tacoma so Addison could pick out a birthday present for Sophie.  She picked out a cute rainbow spinning top that Sophie just LOVES!  After the toy store we headed over to one of our favorite Irish restaurants, Paddy Coynes, for dinner.  We had a great time, but I only managed to take one picture…

At a year, Sophie has mostly mastered walking and has the cutest little waddle (not that I’m biased or anything…) :)  She has a few words (mama, dada, baba, dog, ball, etc) and loves to point at everything.  She also has the *cutest* beauty queen wave…maybe she has a future on Toddlers and Tiaras.  I kid… :)

At her 1 year well-baby visit she was 29.5 inches (60th percentile!!) and 19lbs 15oz.  I think my favorite Sophie feature at the moment is her gorgeous mop of curly brown hair.

Addison’s was stick straight at this age so I’m anxious to see what’s Sophie’s does as it gets longer!!  Even though it’s almost been a month I still can’t believe my little baby is 1!!  Here’s to another year of fun (and madness) with a 1 year old and 3 year old.  Lord help me… :)

Quote of the day

We were upstairs playing before naps today and Addison was showing Sophie some stuff on our little Fisher Price kitchen.  All of a sudden I heard Addison say:

Um, mommy…I think I need some help.

I turned around to this (thank goodness I had my Blackberry for a quick pic!)

That kid never fails to make me laugh :)
